More travels
I made it to the states and back for my testing! But the trip ended up going much differently then I had planned. My original flights were Tuesday noon to Atlanta, and Thursday morning from Atlanta back to Belize. I must have misread the email I got a few days before the flight because in my mind, my flight was Monday. I pack Sunday night, then get up Monday morning and leave after breakfast. I got on the only bus to Belize which was packed so I was standing. About half way to the airport I texted my dad and said, “hey, I’m on the bus to the airport.” He responded confused and told me my flight was the next day. I felt so confused so I checked the email again and, sure enough, the flight was for Tuesday. I didn’t want to go all the way back to MOVE just for the night then ride the bus again the next day, so I decided to just stay near the airport for the night. My dad asked if I had any friends near the airport and at first I said no, but then I remembered that someone I know runs mission trips through Ladyville which is right near the airport. So, I message Vern Byrd and ask if he is still in Belize and if I can crash on a couch at his place for the night. The whole time I had been praying cause I felt like God had to have a plan in all this. Vern texted me back and said for sure! He had Hinsdale Academy staying at the house on their Senior class mission trip. Vern lead out on the same mission trip for my school my senior year of high school, which is really where I decided to do mission work and teach. Anyways! Vern messaged me and said if I got there by noon I could eat with Hinsdale and then go to the orphanage in the afternoon with them (the same orphanage I went to 4 years ago). I swung by the airport just to see if they could change my flight and they said I would have to buy a new ticket. So! Off I went to Verns house. I ended up walking there which was a total of 10 Kilometers, just save money. When I got to the house Vern was still out with Hinsdale. When they showed up I looked and saw a familiar face! Rod Metcalf. I spent time with him at camp a few years when he comes up for family camp. We were both definitely surprised to bump into each other in Belize! It was so exciting to see another familiar face! Anyways, we grabbed lunch then headed out to the orphanage to spend time with the kids for the afternoon. I got to know some of the Hinsdale kids and spend time with a few of the orphans that were there from 4 years ago! Even though I only spent time with the orphans for a few hours, it was really hard to say bye. So, we got back to the house, had dinner then worship and then of few of us hung out for a while before bed. The next morning we packed up and I caught a ride to the airport with Hinsdale (their flight was the one right after mine). It was so cool to see Rod and Vern, spend time at the orphanage, and get to know some of the kids from Hinsdale! I truly think God sent me on that bus a day early just to give me that tiny vacation and time with friends. Well, made it on the flight and got to the states. My parents picked me up, we went out to eat with my grandparents, then drove to where my parents were staying. I got there and saw the two donated ukuleles which got me excited, then I went to bed. The next day I went into the exam at 8 AM. Around 3:30 in the afternoon the doctor said that we wouldn’t have time to finish that day. My brain was already fried from all the testing and when he told me that I just wanted to give up. I had to leave to the airport at 7 the next morning, so I either would miss my flight or not finish this testing. The real problem, though, was that I knew I was going to have to change my flight. I stepped out in faith buy the plane tickets and still hadn’t received enough money to pay my parents back for those tickets, and now... I needed to buy another ticket back to Belize. Despite all my effort to save money: walking instead of getting taxis, sleeping on someone couch instead of renting a hotel, donating plasma, not buying food, etc. I still didn’t even have half of what I needed to for the ticket. Anyways! I called my parents and they came and started looking for another ticket. We told the doctor we would be back at 7:30 the next morning to finish the testing. As we were heading to meet up with my sister for dinner, mom was looking for tickets back to Belize. Everything was at least $450. She told me went to look at this website she normally never uses because she felt impressed, and there was a ticket from Atlanta to Belize for $170. It had a 12 hour layover in Toronto Canada, but hey! It was the cheapest by far! We bought it and then my mom kept looking around and all the other websites were selling the same ticket for somewhere around $500 dollars. Within an hour the place where my mom got the ticket had also boosted the price up as well. God truly did lead us to that cheap ticket which was a blessing. I still didn’t have a way of paying for it... but at least I knew God was still leading. I got to see my brother and sister that evening as well as my best friend. The next morning (Thursday) I went back in and finished the testing, spent some time with family, went and did a little shopping, saw another friend for a few moments, then headed off to the airport. I flew from Atlanta to Toronto and landed at 9 PM. I found a cool bench to stay on for the night and conked out. The next morning (Friday) I made it through security and headed to my gate, we boarded just before 9, and I landed back in Belize. I caught a bus from outside the airport back to Carmelita(where I live), then hitchhiked the last 3 miles to the mission project. 45 hours in the USA, 12 hours in Canada, more then 20 hours of travel, 13 hours of testing, and all in less than 5 days. This short trip was very stressful and at times I definitely wondered if it was God’s will. But He continues to show me, and strengthen my faith. I don’t know how the testing will end up, I have to way a month or 2 for the FAA to send me the results. But no matter what the outcome will be, I know that it will be God’s will and He will continue guide me in the path He has for my life. Please continue to pray that God’s will will be done. Thank you for all your support, prayers, and donations.
